External Hemorrhoid
Hemorrhoids are painful conditions; we all know that from listening to the people who have it. But, how do you know if you have hemorrhoids? Have you been experiencing the symptoms of hemorrhoids lately?
If you have internal hemorrhoids, only a doctor would be able to tell you for sure if you have them. But an external hemorrhoid may easily be felt or seen on the surface around the anus. It will look like a small, soft lump of skin, about the size of a raisin or a grape. Be very gentle and careful not to damage it. If it feels like you have one, see a doctor as soon as possible.
The easiest way to tackle hemorrhoids of any kind is to change to a healthier diet and lifestyle. Drink plenty of water, have more fiber, take bulk stool softeners like Psyllium husk to avoid constipation. Do not strain while passing your bowel. Go to the toilet as soon as you have the urge.
Also, for external hemorrhoids, you must be careful when cleaning yourself after passing bowel. Do not use scented wipes or tissues. Do not use soaps. These will only irritate the area further. The area is best cleaned with plain water during a shower or a bath.
You can use thick-quilted baby wipes when showers or baths are not possible. Whatever you do, be sure to clean very slowly and gently. Never scrub the area.
Be sure not to damage the hemorrhoid in any way to prevent it from developing a clot or bursting. Both of these situations can be very dangerous.
When there is pain during bowel movement and you see blood in the stool or while cleaning, consult your doctor. Painful hemorrhoids can be treated with ice packs. Taking warm sitz baths also helps. You can also alternate between the two. This should be done several times a day.
If you experience continuous itching and irritation around the anus, get a check up to see if you have pruritus ani. This happens when an internal hemorrhoid protrudes out and oozes moisture and faeces. Do not confuse this with an external hemorrhoid.
You may have heard this a thousand times but you have to quite bad habits like smoking and drinking if you want to get better. Add more water, fresh fruits and vegetables and fiber in your diet. Avoid coffee and start exercising instead for more energy.
