Hemorrhoid surgery

Let’s face it; hemorrhoids are a pain in the … well, a very private area. And they can be quite irritating and painful. In extreme cases, you might be tempted to go in for a hemorrhoid surgery.

Surgery is really the extreme and it is also very expensive. So think it through before deciding. Have you really tried all of the tried and tested methods for treating hemorrhoids?

These methods include a change in your diet, taking regular sitz baths, using stool softeners and topical creams to relieve the pain and irritation. There are also many home remedies that are easy to find and use.
So you say that they didn’t work for you? Well, then, looks like you might need hemorrhoid surgery after all. There are several types of surgery these days. So you might have to choose. Ask your doctor if you are fit for the surgery. If you have other health issues involved, you might not be able to go through with the surgery.

Usually, only those hemorrhoids that have grown really large or have developed a clot would need surgery. Surgery will literally cut the vein and the tissue out of the body. It is done on both internal and external hemorrhoids. This is not a very simple procedure so you need to be prepared for it.

Surgery also does not guarantee that the hemorrhoids won’t come back. You need to take really good care of yourself post the surgery to ensure that they don’t come back.

Hemorrhoid surgery is considered to be the most effective method of getting rid of hemorrhoids. But it also may cause a lot of problems in the urinary tract and the anal passage. There may be bleeding post surgery, which is normal. But if there is excessive bleeding and pain, contact your doctor immediately.

If you go in for a surgery, be prepared to stay overnight at the hospital. You will need to go on a special diet prior to the surgery and then your gastrointestinal passage (basically your innards) will be cleared out. This is usually done with a combination of laxatives and an enema.

You will probably be down and recovering from the surgery for at least a few days to up to two weeks. Take care of your post-surgical diet. If you get constipated, you might be in a world of trouble. So just keep it simple and healthy and stay physically active.
